A message from Scott Levin, WGRZ-TV Anchor

As the evening anchorman for WGRZ-TV 2 in Buffalo for the last 12 years, it’s my job to inform the viewers of Western New York. To me, informing our viewers of the latest health news is of utmost importance. People need to be aware of what is happening in the ever-changing health world. Oftentimes it’s a matter of life and death!

That’s why I love working for WGRZ. Our station is committed to improving the community at large, and that includes making a major commitment to reporting current health news and breakthroughs.

Most people know someone who has or has had cancer… for me, it’s been a very personal issue. My father lost his courageous battle six years ago, succumbing to cancer after a short illness. My sister is a cancer survivor; battling lymphoma head on, she would not let the cancer win! And currently my father-in-law is battling prostate cancer. I want to make a difference any way I can to help save the lives of others. Together, we can beat this disease.

Our goal is to help more men make informed decisions about early detection testing for prostate cancer. By the way, the tests are very easy to do… it only takes seconds to get checked and it’s totally painless! I get tested every year during my birthday week. Booking my doctor’s appointment the week of my birthday helps me to remember to do it yearly, and it’s a birthday present not only to myself, but to my family as well.

Men need to take this seriously, and act responsibly. This is no time to act like a tough guy and ignore a simple doctor’s visit. I also want to make sure that men make the right decision the first time as far as treatment is concerned. Channel 2 and I are proud to partner with Roswell Park to get the word out and promote “Aim For a Cure.” It’s about time men learn how easy it is to get screened for prostate cancer—early detection is the key to your success!
